Trauma Therapy

Are you struggling with severe anxiety due to trauma?

Trauma is a pervasive and often debilitating experience that can affect individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It can be caused by a range of events, including but not limited to accidents, childhood abuse, sudden loss, violence, or natural disasters. The effects of trauma can be long-lasting and can manifest in a variety of ways, including deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, and post-traumatic stress. While some individuals may be able to recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends, others may struggle with the effects of lasting trauma.

Individuals who have experienced a trauma may develop a type of anxiety called post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This type of anxiety is characterized by a set of symptoms that may cause the person feel as the traumatic event is still happening. In such circumstances, it is essential to seek the support, guidance, and assistance of a qualified therapist to aid in the healing process. By doing so, individuals can overcome the effects of trauma and move forward with resiliency, regardless of the cause of the trauma. With the right support and resources, individuals can lead fulfilling lives and achieve a sense of well-being and wholeness.

Four Categories of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Avoidance Symptoms

  • Avoiding specific locations, sights, situations, and sounds that serve as reminders of the event

  • Anxiety, depression, numbness, or guilt

Re-experiencing Symptoms

  • Intrusive thoughts

  • Nightmares

  • Flashbacks

Hyper Arousal Symptoms

  • Anger, irritability and hypervigilance

  • Aggressive, reckless behavior, including self-harm

  • Sleep disturbances

Negative Mood and Cognition Symptoms
  • Loss of interest in activities that were once considered enjoyable

  • Difficulty remembering details of the distressing event

  • Change in habits or behavior since the trauma

Research has proven psychotherapy to be the most effective form of treatment for trauma. Most commonly, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy,  and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) are used in treating trauma.
