Frequently Asked Questions
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a variety of psychological treatments that aim to help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. At Florecer we also believe that therapy is a gift to yourself with the ultimate goal to gain the tools you need to have better relationships and flourish within yourself in a way that you feel satisfied, and at peace with the life that you build as you age and look back on how you broke free from the feelings that were holding you back.

Fear of going to therapy may hold you back from taking the first step. No need to dread, you can expect a supportive and welcoming place where at the same time your therapist will engage you in the process of discovering new ways to deal with challenges.

Because no two people are the same and we all have different experiences in life, our approach is diverse and take from different modalities our therapist are trained on. Our therapist will meet you where you currently are in your life so you can feel comfortable in the process. Our team of therapist are trained in several evidence-based treatments approved by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health that focus on the healing of trauma, anxiety, depression, relational issues, parenting support, substance abuse, and many more mental health conditions.

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to a professional psychotherapist or my best friend?
A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing your business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotions, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Many times medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
Would I have to be in therapy for life?
The length of your treatment would be determined during your initial assessment and based on the goals you want to work on in therapy. Treatment plans are created around short-term and long-term goals. On average, most of our clients see significant changes after the first six sessions. To reach their goals, people typically complete 12 to 36 sessions. For best results, we recommend starting with weekly sessions.
How effective is online therapy?
Online therapy makes counseling more accessible from the comfort of your own home or office, allows you to use your time more efficiently by avoiding the traveling time, and reduces stress, as you don’t have to take time out of your busy schedule to get to an office to see your therapist.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
What services do you provide?
I provide professional mental health counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. I specialized in family counseling, child and teen counseling, as well as premarital and marriage counseling.
What insurances do you accept?
I accept Optum, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, UMR, UHC Student Resources, AllSavers UHC, Harvard Pilgrim, Oxford Health Plans, and Oscar.

Do you Accept Out-of-Network (OON) Insurances?
For out-of-network coverage, I have partnered with Thrizer to handle this process automatically for my clients. With Thrizer you will only have to pay your co-insurance for our sessions, instead of paying my full fee and waiting for reimbursements. This can save you 70% upfront on our sessions. During our intake process, I’ll help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your co-insurance would be.
Your insurance will reimburse you according to your policy’s out-of-network benefits. Call your insurance to inquire about your behavioral or outpatient benefits. You can locate the telephone number on the back of your insurance card.
